A Tale of Two Audiences- Learn to live without limits

A tale of two audiences.
I had the privilege of speaking to two groups yesterday, one a group of leaders in the IT industry (the Paragon IT Forum) and the other a group of bodacious young leaders who had or will age out of the foster care system (The InSight Youth Leadership Board). They couldn’t have been any different. One group was sitting comfortably on soft velvet seat of success, while the other group imagined what it would be like to spend one day on that seat.
I spoke to both about vision. At the end of the presentation, I asked my audiences to tell me what they wanted and when they planned on pursuing this vision that is theirs for the taking. One group sheepishly raised their hands (granted, it was early in the morning) and reluctantly told me their dreams of wrestling sharks and seeing the world. The other waved wildly, laughing and energized while imagining buying houses and completing educations. One group spoke in quiet tones and described their dreams with the attachments clearly visible. When the kids are older. After this project. Once the details are clearer. The other spoke with the urgency of people coming up the ladder. Right now. As soon as I can. If I could only seen to the other side of this barrier.
I’ll leave it to you to figure out which was which.
So, which life is more “me?”
I thought about the two audiences, one I “belonged” to, with my suburban address, my corporate experience and my bank account. The other claimed my soul with their excitement at the idea they don’t have to WAIT to live their vision. They don’t need perfect credit and fame and privilege. They only need a soul, air in their lungs and a view into their purpose. I decided I will claim membership in both. I feel a burden for both groups. For one, I want to galvanize them into buying the tickets, pulling the trigger, making the difference NOW instead of tomorrow. For the other, I want to help them see their value, to shrink down those barriers so they understand they truly can have everything they want.
Inspiring others with your life!
No matter what your station in life, vision is yours. It is the life-blood of your reality. The ability to use your imagination, to dream, to concoct what you think are wild fantasies but are only pages from a day in the very near future. THIS IS VISION. You must be caught up in holiday shopping and mortgage payments. I understand. But yesterday I was reminded of my privilege, the resources available to me to breath and live in the light of my vision. I am not here to be “responsible.” I am here to live a wild and crazy life that makes you sit on the edge of your seat with the uncomfortable need to change the channel. To inspire you.
Don’t wait to wrestle sharks. Don’t wait until all the stars align in perfection. Don’t worry what people will say. Give them something to talk about, to dream about, to change with. Create waves in the ocean we all live in. It’s your right. It’s your privilege. It’s your responsibility.
There was one young gentleman in the second group who spent his time alternating between answering my questions and copiously capturing my words. (Which step was that ma’am?). To him I dedicate this Slideshare, all 9 steps of vision. I hope your excitement lasted until this afternoon when I had time to upload it. And call me! I’d love to inspire you more.
