Day 7/ 30 days of Intention: What are you telling your inner Bike-Rider? Mix a little grace with your intention.
My son Andrew was petrified of riding a bike. I couldn’t get the training wheels off of his bike and when he was nine, I threw down the gauntlet. He would NOT be the only boy in college that couldn’t ride a two wheeler.
I think he thought I was trying to kill him. He was absolutely convinced that going faster would lead to injury. So, he wobbled along and fell. And fell. And fell.
When he fell, here’s what I DIDN’T say:
- Writing is on the wall, I guess. Maybe (insert activity here) isn’t for you.
- You have no passion.
- You have no discipline.
- What is wrong with you.
- I guess you don’t want your life to get any better than this.
It’s okay to take some days off. There’s nothing wrong to start a challenge and go back to the drawing board to reformulate the process.
Every time you step up to do something different with your life, you are living out your intentions and risking failure.
I know if you learn the empowerment of the 30 Days of You process, you will get what you want. But along the way, you are going to have moments of doubt, distraction and disappointment.
What do you tell that inner child who is afraid of getting hurt or looking stupid. If you do not offer yourself grace, your intentions will go by the wayside.
