Five fantastic tips for Designing Your Year! #DYY
Are you ready to Design Your Year?
(click here to listen to today’s webinar about Designing Your Year)
Until six years ago, I was a LIFE MANAGER. Whatever life handed me, I set my mind to
figuring out and triumphing. Confession: I was probably worse than most with the whole “managing” thing- what with my self-imposed financial stress, unplanned family situations, general marital unpreparedness and more.
So what happened six years ago, you ask? I was laid off. After years and years of stuffing my talents into a corporate box, living in fear of being told I was too much or too little in my relationships, losing my financial false front (house I couldn’t afford, etc etc), I was laid off with one day notice and one week severance. This was my chance to start over.
And, it was my first foray into DESIGNING, not managing my life.
You can design your life. I can’t tell you that it will turn out exactly the way you wanted it to. Those guarantees do not happen in this earthly existence. What I can promise is that with a design, you will achieve more than not, and you will have focus and balance! Here are the five tips I shared in my morning webinar:
-
Pick a Theme for 2013:
I have been harping on this since December because I truly
believe in it! My theme is IGNITE. This theme focuses my energy, thoughts and actions into IGNITING behavior. I picture you as fireworks, dynamite or kindling, and I am there with my flame, ready to ignite the perfect you. So choose a transformational theme and go for it. Choose something you can really get behind and promote. You want the world to know this is your theme! Also choose a theme that is supportive, not rehabilitative. You are perfect- you just need a life designed for your perfection.
-
Start at the end:
I don’t know how it started but as I wash my hair, I think out my acceptance speech. Perfect post-Oscar Design Your Year activity. Start at the end of
your vision- what do you see? Who do you need to thank. It provides a focus for the elements as you design your year! I want to thank my husband and best friend for believing in me, for my children and YOU for inspiration, and my parents for their amazing instruction. What am I doing? Well, I’m in a stadium of thousands, ready to inspire. I’m sitting on a morning talk show, ready to inspire the world. I’m waiting to sign your book, and you are at the front of a very long line of people waiting. That’s inspiration!
-
Know your anchor:
This is your why. Imagine you are a boat without your anchor down. A little breeze of financial difficulty and you are going in one direction. A unsupportive friend-barge brushes by and you are tossed about by that turbulence.
Your anchor keeps you in place no matter what the circumstances. I am doing this to inspire you. It’s my anchor for everything. What’s your anchor? Safety? Financial Freedom? Closer Relationships? Better health. Use that to keep you focused as you Design Your Year and live through it.
-
Know your starting point:
Have you ever put the wrong starting point or destination into Mapquest or some other map app? It’s the worst. You want to get somewhere, only to find you had given the wrong instructions. If you want to design your year, you need to be
HONEST. Be honest about how tired you are, your frustration in your marriage, your fears about finances or your career. Don’t pretend where you are or where you want to go. Your design is dependent on accurate data!
-
Change your state with a few tricks:
You are not defeated. You are not disempowered. You are ready to win joy and happiness as you design your year. Remember the Rocky movies? Now do you remember the songs? Of course you do! It’s because a very skilled producer included music that you could associate with the images of Rocky building his strength as he got up after being knocked down. Let’s create a soundtrack for your year! Five songs that you can use to get yourself into that winning state. Place reminders of your goals around you. Put your freshest,
most energetic face on and go for it!
So that’s it. It was nothing short of fantastic to share this on our Design Your Year webinar. If you missed it or want to pass it on- the recording is right here!
