Four awesome reasons you should time travel to your best life!

Time travel.

I know it sounds cheesy, but if you can think of another way to vividly describe actively impacting and influencing the future, I’m open.

On the off chance you are confused, let me lay the ground work. What is time travel on this 100 day journey? It’s not “going into the future” in the physical sense. Sorry folks, you’ll have to wait for the next moment like the rest of us! However, everything you do, whether it is positive or negative, colors your future.

  • If you spend money on a pair of awesome jeans, you will have one result. If you spend the same money by adding it to an investment, you will have another result.
  • If you choose to leave a problem with your mother unresolved, you will have one result. If you choose to work on yourself and the way you interact with your mama, you will experience another result.
  • If you eat a Twinkie every night before you go to bed, you will have one result. If you choose to forgo the Twinkies and you have grapes instead, I promise you, you will have another result.

Since this concept of time travel is really just the way your now interacts with your future, “time travel,” is simply a strategy, a way to manipulate the future consciously, rather than wandering through your now hoping you are doing “alright” and it “doesn’t get too bad,” because “you are a good person.”

This is about empowerment!

There are 9 ways I am choosing to focus on time travel. I think there are a million more, but at the risk of overwhelming you, we are going to stick with 9. Here’s the best part. All of them are free and accessible to you right now. No excuses right? Empowerment.

So why time travel. It seems hard, doesn’t it? To think about your future all the time, when it feels pretty challenging right now? I can only tell my own story. I did a lot of damage in my time travel when I was younger, which I live with right. There were two kinds of time-travel I had to figure out:

  • First there is the “big picture” time travel: Hard relationships with men, refusing img_9974to save, living life hard—in my work and play. And as a result, I had some issues to work through. Learning NOT to spend, pushing myself to learn how to be authentic and honest in relationships, re-shaping the way I treat myself physically. The damage was done. But I didn’t have to do NEW damage.
  • Second, I found out about the mini-time travel. The little things that make my life easier later. Cleaning out the fridge. Laying out clothes. Making a list the night before. These small efforts created peace for me later, rather than more work.

As I learned how I could impact my tomorrow and my future with my actions, I started to think of it as giving future myself a break. It’s kind of comical, but I started to talk to myself, “you’re going to thank me later.” Or, “thanks for doing that for me.” It made sense, and I’m never going back.

Today I really wanted to convince you. It was hard for me to fully comprehend and now that I see the benefits, I want to give you my cliff notes. No reason for you to have to go through all that I did, right? Here are four benefits of Time Travel.

  • Tomorrow has it’s own unexpected stuff.

If you understand nothing else, know this: if you put off something you don’t like for tomorrow, or next year, there will already be some sort of problem or unexpected difficulty in that moment. Each “now” has it’s own issues. By carrying unresolved stuff forward, you are just making it more crowded, more difficult, more distracting, more trouble-filled. As you clean up your room, or you plan for retirement, or you get real with your partner, realize you are taking care of business in the best possible way. Procrastination is really just leading to a 20-car pileup of trouble in the future.

  • It gives you a feeling of satisfaction.

When I get in the morning and run, I get an incredible feeling of self-pride. It’s not the copy-of-copy-of-copy-of-copy-of-copy-of-remarkable-success-grows-from-the-seeds-of-daily-consistent-actionsrunning, although I have experienced benefits from regular exercise. You that saying, “that’s why we can’t have nice things?” I really feel I can have nice things now. The knowledge that I can promise something to myself and keep my promise is truly exhilarating. After years of broken promises, I know—I’m the real deal. And when bigger responsibilities come my way, I’ll be able to deal with them.

  • You will feel taken care of.

It’s really sweet, after a long days work, to walk into my bedroom and see things in order. I just need to drop my stuff on the floor and slip into bed. I love to see my bank account grow, knowing that it’s making it easier for me and my family in the future. I am happy knowing the good food I eat, the exercise I engage in is somehow contributing to a better life for me future. I want to be able to thank the “past me” for taking care of my body, my mind, my spiritual state.

  • You will feel less anxious and more optimistic.

This is probably one of the best one’s for me. I used to pride myself in being a gladiator. “I can handle anything,” I told people. Why is that such a great thing anyway? I don’t want to have to handle “anything” all the time! I want to have peace and clarity so I can pursue my purpose, not live as a professional fire-fighter! As I have become more consistent in my positive time travel, I feel less worried about tomorrow’s issues. I know I can handle it. God’s got this. I have proven it to myself.

So, as you go into your tomorrow, what can you do for yourself? Here’s a quick list. Do it! Just choose one, and travel into your future like a fairy of goodness, making life easier in the long run.

  1. Go to bed early.
  2. Resolve a conflict.
  3. Lay out your clothing and other necessary items the day before.
  4. Save a bit of money.
  5. Make a list of what you need to do. Make a master list for the year.
  6. Call your mom and your dad.
  7. Go to the doctor and get everything checked out.
  8. Can you think of anything else? Add your ideas in the comments!

Good luck in your time travel my friend. I hope the future you and the future me get to hang out together and celebrate the results of our strategies in action!
