This whole situation can be a daunting mess, right? Managing is one part accountability, making sure people are getting enough of the right things done. The other part is equally important: building a relationship that fosters a healthy investment in the team’s success. When you are working around the corner from your employees, it’s easy to make these things happen. A quick conversation, even your presence, creates an environment for accountability. And, there is nothing like the eye-test whether the morale is positive or you need to create time for some fun.
A virtual connection calls for the same leadership but different techniques. Basically, you as a leader need to reach through the screen and create an online environment that builds trust, transparency and connection. No small task, right?
