THE WORK FROM HOME SUCCESS PRIMER
Experts say 93% of communication is non-verbal. There are four types of communication: verbal, non verbal, written and visual. The non-verbal and visual components are made up of body language and tone of voice.
One of the reasons I created a fully separate session focusing on virtual communication is because we rely so much on what we can see and detect, the “real” communication that is hidden behind what people are actually speaking or writing to us. Online communication can turn the volume down on that valuable non-verbal connection. We become reliant on the authenticity and effectiveness of others.
Let’s just say it’s hard.
Some of you are better at it than others. But even the best will struggle without focus. Because you can’t see the people in the meeting or 1-1, because they might be holding back or simply acting differently in front of a camera, you may have to turn up your attention.
If you don’t, you could find yourself in the middle of misunderstanding and miscommunication.
In this session, I offer you five ideas to avoid those pitfalls and hopefully improve your communication skills. When normalcy returns, you will be better off!
